Garlock
Garlock has been a leader in the fluid sealing industry since the 19th century when Olin J. Garlock discovered a better way to seal piston rods inside industrial steam engines. Today Garlock manufactures a wide range of sealing products including oil seals, bearing seals, molded rubber products, valve and pump packing and more. Garlock products include Helicoflex, Klozure, Cefil'Air and Gylon.
Having sealants with high durability and excellent insulation properties was critical to its success, which is why Garlock, like so many other industrial manufacturers of its day used asbestos in its products. Once released into the air, microscopic asbestos fibers are easily airborne and inhaled or swallowed. Embedded asbestos fibers are extremely difficult for the body to remove, and over time, scar tissue can form around the fibers, eventually becoming irritated. It’s this irritation that is lays the foundation for mesothelioma, a deadly form of cancer that affects the lungs, abdomen, and in rare cases, the heart.

The asbestos industry knew from published medical reports and internal studies that asbestos was harming its workers, yet did nothing to warn or protect its workers or the public. Garlock did not cease its use of asbestos until about 1980. Because of this failure to warn, Garlock has been the subject of many mesothelioma lawsuits.
If you or a loved one has developed mesothelioma cancer as a result of working for Garlock, or with any of its products, you do have rights under asbestos law and may be eligible for a mesothelioma settlement. Mesothelioma attorneys may be able to get you the compensation you need and deserve.
