Honeywell

The Honeywell Heating Specialty Company Inc. was founded in 1906 by Mark C. Honeywell. In 1927 it became the Minneapolis-Honeywell Regulator Company following its 1927 merger with the Minneapolis Heat Regulator company. For over 30 years the company manufactured thermostatic heating controls.

In 1961, under the leadership of James H. Binger, the company changed its name to Honeywell and expanded its business selling cameras and a wide range of military items such as bombs, missile guidance, landmines and napalm for the U.S. military. Honeywell expanded into computers in the 1960s and bought General Electric’s computer division in 1970.

Asbestos and Honeywell

Most of Honeywell’s asbestos-containing products came its subsidiary, the North American Refracteries Company, or NARCO. Some of these products include Aerogun, BOF Patch, Narcocast Refractory Cement, Staz-On Insulating Cement and many more. Since Honeywell owned NARCO from 1979 to 1986, the company has been found responsible in a large number of asbestos lawsuits filed by individuals harmed by exposure to their products.

Many of Honeywell’s asbestos-containing products were heavily used by the Navy, exposing its workers, sailors and countless other individuals to deadly asbestos fibers. Once inhaled or swallowed, microscopic asbestos fibers can become embedded in the delicate lining of the lungs and other internal organs and are not easily removed by the body’s macrophages. Over many years and decades, the embedded fibers cause scarring and irritation, a condition that is a precursor to mesothelioma, a deadly but rare form of cancer. Although Honeywell, along with many other companies that manufacturer asbestos products knew early on that the asbestos fibers were deadly, they did nothing to protect their workers.

If you or a loved one were exposed to asbestos from working at Honeywell, or with any of their products and developed mesothelioma or any asbestos-related disease as a result, you may be eligible for compensation. Mesothelioma attorneys have helped thousands of families win the compensation they need and deserve.
